Welcome to Year 1 -  6th Sept 2016
Today is our 1st day in Year 1. In our class we have 26 children. We have 16 boys and we have 10 girls.
Our teachers are Miss Randles and Mrs Shaw.
Our PE day is Wednesday and we all have our PE kits in our classroom.
We will be working in the ICT suite on Tuesdays and Fridays.
On Tuesday mornings Mrs Beedles will be teaching Geography, History and Music.
We have our weekly spelling test on a Thursday and every Friday your child will have new words to learn for the following week.
Your child will get a new reading book every Tuesday if they bring their last book back into school.
We have our merit assembly on a Friday.
We think that's all the information we have for you for now! We are going to do some fantastic work and we will update our page soon.
Please look at our photos from our
very first day!
We had 100% attendance - an excellent way to start the new year.
Roald Dahl - 100th Birthday celebrations
This week in school we remembered all the fantastic stories that Roald Dahl wrote.
We spoke about our favourite books, which included Matilda, The BFG, The Twits, George's Mavellous Medicine and James and the Giant Peach.
During Golden Time we startedto watch the Roald Dahl Film Matilda. We loved it!
On Friday the 23rd September Year 6 came to do some shared reading with us. We loved it and we hope to do this more regularly.
This has been a great first half term. We have worked really hard and produced some great work. We have a new little girl who has settled in brilliantly, so now we have 16 boys and 11 girls.
We hope you have a good half term holiday.
On Monday the 7th of Novemeber we learnt all about Remembrance Day.
Ask your child what they know about it - you may be surprised.
We each made individual poppy wreahts to help us to remember.
Today we had another new arrival - that brings us up to 16 boys and 12 girls. 28 children altogether - hurrah!
Year 1 have been learning their spellings and writing them out as fast as they could.
How many words can you write in 5 minutes?
On Monday 5th December we visited St James's library, we listened to a christmas story and we coloured in some christmas trees for the display.
The children were very well behaved, and they walked very sensibly there and back.
On the 14th December we performed our nativity - The Wriggly Nativity - we were amazing!
We have been working hard in our maths lessons, we have been learning about number bonds to 20 - have a look!
Happy Easter everyone - have a safe and happy Easter break.
Today we said goodbye to one of our girls. We hope she will be very happy in her new school.
So we are back to 24 children! Miss Randles and Mrs Evans. See you all in two weeks - don't forget to do your Easter homework.

Summer term 2017

Welcome back, we hope you have had a great holiday.

This is a very busy term for everybody. Our Year 1's have their phonics tests mid-June and we are busy preparing for them. The spelling homework that we send home is based on the phased phonics we learn in class  and so it is important that your child does their homework regularly, either independently or with your help. If you return the homework book to class on a Thursday we will put the following weeks homework in it and send it back home the next day. All homework will be in the book.

Last term we welcomed parents to come in and read with their child in class. We now have a super mum who comes in daily for half an hour and reads with our children, Mrs Smith volunteers for an hour on a Thursday to hear extra readers also.  If you would like to do this please come and see me.

During the summer term, not only do we work hard in class, we try to update and organise our back garden. This summer we have a "paint" project - refurbishing some summer "furniture" if you feel this is something you would like to get involved with please let me know.

Our PE lesson will remain on a Wednesday, as well as our library visit and Mrs Beedles will also teach Year 1 on a Tuesday morning.

The summer term is always a challenge but a fun one -  so keep an eye out for some further updates.

We are now ice cream makers!
We have made ice cream from scratch! we used three simple ingredients and we then wrote recipes for other people to follow.
It was delicious!
On Wed 24th May we held our Sports Day, the weather was glorious and many people came to watch. We had a super afternoon.
