Y6

Autumn Term Y6

Welcome back from the Summer Holidays for your child's final year at Portland Primary! We have three terms of intensive hard work and good times ahead of us before the end of Year 6. Mr. Heywood and Miss Green are very excited about working with their new class!

It's really important that the children are here every day, and that they put 100% effort into their classwork and homework so that they can do their very best this year. SATs take place in May and we hope this year group will be one that all achieve well!

We have the excitement of a trip to Barnstondale in October, and will be holding a meeting for parents very soon. Also, children will need to be thinking about secondary school choices very soon. If anyone has any questions in the meantime, please get in touch.

This year we will cover the following topics in the Year 6 curriculum:

Homework

Your child will continue to receive Spelling, Grammar and Maths homework every week, which is due in on Thursday. They will also be given Reading Comprehension and Topic led homework some weeks. I would appreciate it if you would support your child by  checking his / her homework bag daily and ensuring they complete it and hand it in on time. Thank You!

If you would like further information on the Year 6 Curriculum, or have any questions, please contact Mr. Heywood.

On Friday the 23rd September Year 6 buddied up with Year 1 to do some shared reading. We read them their favourite stories. It was lovely and we hope to do it more regularly.
10th November - Our Barstondale Assembly

Here are some photos from our class assembly. We were amazing and everyone said what a great job we did.

Thanks to our parents and carers for coming, we really appeciated it.
On Monday 17th July we held our leavers assembly. Many people came to watch, all the others children, our family and friends and all the teachers.

We were amazing! Our Shakespear play - A Midsummer's Night Dream was fantastic.

We also listened to Helen play the piano for Miss Green and there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

Mr Heywood and Miss Green were very proud of us all.
